Peter almost never carves cross-cuts, but he should certainly consider doing so more often. His spare, elegant design sense has brought new vitality to this very old shape, with its oval bowl, long tapered shank tapering upward to a notched saddle bit, and all this with great balance and pleasing proportions. The naturally finished briar has revealed fields of intriguing birdseye on both sides of the bowl which appears almost three dimensional. An extraordinary piece from a world class pipe maker.
