Rinaldo Triade Giant YYYY Calabash

Price: $325.00

Guido Rinaldo and his brother Elio make pipes by hand in Pesaro, Italy, which is also home to the Ser Jacopo, Mastro di Paja, and Tombari workshops. You can read more about the brothers and their work here on the importer, Steve Monjure's site.

Of all the shapes they make, I find the Calabash the most attractive. The YYYY grade Triade "Titiana" (Titan)  is the highest save only the Fiammata. This example is a very large, superbly grained pipe, naturally finished, and fitted with a translucent, amber-colored hand cut stem whose color harmonizes with the color of the briar. The ODA-sized bowl with its convex "cap" flows smoothly down into the stout tapered shank. It is very well proportioned, if a bit heavy in the bowl, and pays respectful homage to the gourd calabash. Drillings and internal aerodynamics are spot-on, and a pipe cleaner passes easily to the bottom of the bowl.

It is in superb, lightly smoked condition. It can hold pride of place in any collection, and should be a superb smoker.
