Former for Larsen c. 1965 Selected Grain Horn
This notably graceful and refined saddle bit horn was, like many of Former's early pipes, based upon a famous Sven Knudsen design. Its canted Dublin-like bowl is cut on the bias, a Sven motif, and merges smoothly into a long, tubular shank. The shape is completed and emphasized with an excellent handmade bit, with lathe-turned flared ornament at the shank and mild fishtail lip. The grain is outstanding, though slightly weaker on the hidden side, which accounts for its being graded as a Selected Grain rather than a straight grain. As always, quality of execution is first rate. LIghtly smoked, it's in superb condition.
