The "Select" grade was the entry point to Larsen's high end handcarved series, more often than not executed by one of the top ranked carvers, but whose grain was not sufficient to receive the coveted "Straight Grain" designation. The present example is a handsome, rather bold variation on the classic bent bulldog shape, one whose lines of bowl and shank converge to a kind of point just beneath the rear edge of the convex rim. It's cut from excellent Corsican briar, and the rather long diamond shank is completed with a notably high quality, hand cut "Cumberland" saddle bit. I believe it to have been carved by the great P.H. "Phil" Viggen, and it is in first rate condition in all regards.
