Benni Jorgenson

Benni Jorgenson was a student of Teddy Knudsen's at Larsen; and when Teddy and Tonni Nielsen left to go out on their own in the late '70's, Benni took over making all Larsen's hand made Straight Grain pipes. He remained at Larsen until the company was sold to Stanwell. Toward the end of his time with Larsen, he developed some problems with his elbow, and stopped making pipes for a period, concentrating on doing repairs instead. But thanks to the success his son Lasse Skovegard had in Chicago in 2003 and 2004, Benni has come out of retirement, and has begun producing his own line of pipes. He is an extremely versatile and original carver, with enormous attention to detail. He is particularly adept at creating interesting and assymetrical shapes. His bits are also notable, and is the one aspect of his pipe making that owes the most to Teddy--a very good thing indeed. I will be carrying a small number of his pipes as they become available. I believe they represent the work of one of the heretofore unsung masters. Note: Picture by permission of Lars Kiel.
