Charatan c. 1960 Danish-style Horn Special
A very tall, generously sized horn or bent Dublin from the early Lane era, the rounded contours of whose bowl are reminiscent of the Gert Holbek-designed "Shape Reformed" series for which Pipe Dan was famous. This example has a long, tapered shank, and a handcut Double Comfort bit, original but lacking the "CP." It's cut from excellent flame-grained Grecian briar, stained in an attractive French Red color, and eminently worthy of its "Special" grade and "Extra Large" size designation. A well-loved but carefully smoked pipe, its nomenclature is slightly bleary; otherwise excellent condition.
