Charatan c. 1940 Special Prince/Tomato
In its heydey, Charatan found a nearly perfect balance between the conventional and the unusual, as exemplified by the current pipe. The bowl is perfectly round when viewed from the top, and oval shaped from the side. It has a rather short, tapered shank, and a long, handcut taper bit on which the "CP" is still faintly visible. The briar is of very high quality, most likely Algerian, with a warm honey brown color and surprisingly nice grain all around. It has a generous Group 5 or 6 capacity, and if made by Dunhill, would almost certainly have been designated an ODA. Condition is outstanding in all regards.
