Dantonian PipeWorks Catalog

Dantonian PipeWorks Catalog [19 images]
The Dantonian PipeWorks Catalog was published in English for the export market in 1971-1972. It portrayed a range of high grade pipes that Sven and Teddy Knudsen had designed, and would be made to order for the customer or retailer. Teddy had just left Anne Julie's Suhr workshop, and began to collaborate with his older brother, his first (and only) pipe teacher. The catalog portrayed a number of models, some of which Sven had developed and refined earlier when he was at Suhr, others of which he had made for Larsen and Pipe Dan, and yet others that were new. Teddy came up with his own series of models. The line proved very popular, and many pipes were sold in Germany, the United States, and particularly in Japan. Soon thereafter, Teddy went off on his own, but Sven continued to make pipes under the Dantonian name for some years. During my visit last year, both Teddy and Sven showed me this catalog with considerable (and justifiable) pride, as an important part of their history--and by extension, the history of the handmade Danish pipe itself. I was struck by the grace and beauty of many of the models shown there, which still appear fresh and dynamic today.
