The majority of Grand Slams were stained high contrast dark mahogany, much like the later Blue Ribands. But I suspect that the extraordinary cross cut grain of this little lovat was such as to convince Comoy to leave it in a natural finish. It has a small Group 4 capacity, and is in first rate condition, but for some overly enthusiastic buffing of the shoulder of the bit where it adjoins the shank, creating a tiny "step" between the two. But the ivory bar logo bit is otherwise in excellent condition, as is the rest of the pipe.
