Dupont Unused "Clou de Paris" Table Lighter in the Box

Price: $750.00

Duponts are designed and assembled with the care normally reserved for Swiss watches. The table lighter is regarded as the best of the best. It shares the extremely reliable flint ignition with the pocket lighter, but has a huge gas capacity, easily holding enough fuel for several months of regular usage. This example, dating from the 1970's, has the elegant "Clou de Paris" (Parisian nail) finish, with a cross-hatched surface, whose squares are actually faceted on the top surface, hence resembling an old-fashioned upholstery nail. it's heavily plated in 20 microns of sterling silver.

I suspect this was a very expensive though misguided gift, perhaps to a non-smoker, as it was never fired until I tested it for functionality. It still has the original charge of gas, some 30 years after its sale; so I suspect it will hold for the foreeeable future. It is in perfect condition, protected by its leather covered case lined with velvet, which has but one small dent in the surface.
